The Clinical Research Center for Chronic Obstructive Airway Diseases at Asan Medical Center, supported by the Ministry of Health & Welfare, hosted an international symposium, ¡°Airway Vista 2008,¡± on March 29th and 30th, 2008.
We successfully hosted the largest symposium ever dealing with COPD and asthma in Korea, with 263 participants, 14 speakers, and 7 chairpersons. This symposium was meaningful not only because of its size but also because of its academic achievement. As the speakers who were from prestigious medical schools and hospitals, including Harvard Medical School and Imperial College London, provided the opportunity to explore the latest medical research and developments in these areas, this academic event became a premier forum introducing up-to-date knowledge and generating thought-provoking discussion in these fields. This international symposium conveyed a message of hope to Pulmonary and Allergy Medicine physicians by introducing new treatments for COPD and severe asthma which to date have been considered as incurable diseases.
We hope that Asan Medical Center will take the lead in the fields of COPD and asthma treatment and research as a result of hosting this symposium.
